Had he been cast, I might have liked him more. Doesn’t help that Tom ‘freaking’ Hardy was originally set for this role. His character was really annoying and he was really portrayed as someone weak and always in need of saving, which is odd since he’s a soldier. Killer Croc is strong and has some good charisma but is a walking stereotype (more on that later.) I wasn’t a fan of Colonel Flag. Captain Boomerang is hilarious and had a chance to really steal some of the spotlight, but his moments are so few and in between. Not as hidden as people made her out to be, it would have been nice for her story to get fleshed out a bit more, something that the writers say they will do for the sequel. Katana, who has an interesting backstory if you’re a comic nerd, is just…around for most of the film. The movie is focused on particular characters and thus some are just swept to the side. I can honestly say that action wasn’t a big issue for me here. Some movies think that more explosions means it’s filled with action but that’s not always the case. There’s a good amount of explosions but I wouldn’t say it reached “Michael Bay” levels. From bullets to katanas and fire to baseball bats, there’s plenty of action to go around. His head was huge but it never seemed like it belonged to the body he had.įor the most part, the action of Suicide Squad is satisfying. The skin was fine but his body structure always looked weird. And speaking of bad, I hated, HATED the way Killer Croc looked. In fact there’s a big CGI battle that just looks pretty bad. But even that could be forgiven, unlike her brother Incubus who’s CGI is just awful. But something about it just wasn’t appealing to me. So look, I get it, she’s name Enchantress. The first part of the movie she has this eerie look that I think plays pretty well but then she takes a more royal look later in the film. Enchantress has two different looks in this movie. The grill in his mouth is a nice little touch and the multiple tattoos is actually a cool touch if you asked me. However I don’t have any problems with his actual look. While some of them work, most are just odd choices. First off, that guy had like 20 different outfits throughout the movie. A lot has been made about Jared Leto’s version of The Joker being a horrible rendition of him (we’ll get to the nitty gritty of his character later) and from a visual standpoint, I can see some of the issues. El Diablo’s tattoos were a dope touch and really built up the “former gangbanger” story. It would have been nice to see him fight with the full suit but I understand their reasoning. Deadshot’s suit looks good but he’s rarely seen with the mask on (maybe two or three times during the movie). I thought the highlights in her hair combined with her makeup application really adds to character especially during battle and other scenes. Although the shot of her in her traditional jester suit were “iffy,” her look during the entire movie was fantastic. Some of the visuals were spot on with the eye test, none more than the appearance of Harley Quinn. OH BEFORE I BEGIN, TO THE GUY WHO BROUGHT HIS TODDLER IN WITH BLUE LIGHT UP SHOES AND A DAMN NEAR NEW BORN INTO THE MOVIE ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES IN…YOU SIR CAN KINDLY GO FIND THE NEAREST CLIFF TO PLAY POKEMON GO.įrom an aesthetic standpoint, I was happy with most of the results. But I’m a man of integrity so along with my trusted homie, J Hood (you’ll remember we hung out with Hannibal that one time), we braved the elements to see if the critics were crazy or should the movie have taken a cue from its title. Anyone could take these horrible review and get turned off and wait until the movie comes out on DVD. It did the numbers, killing the August box office record but critics have been destroying the film. Then the movie was released and things took a rather unexpected curve: People hated it. The hype and buildup to the film’s release had been epic, from the initial trailer that confirmed that everyone’s cult favorite Harley Quinn was in it to a new Joker in Jared Leto, there was so much to be excited about. The movie that caught my eye was Suicide Squad, a lesser known commodity that every comic book nerd got super excited for. No it wasn’t Batman vs Superman, because let’s face it, I haven’t gotten over the fact that a guy from Boston is playing Gotham’s greatest hero.
